Spotter's Note: The King
George V Dock, an enclosed upstream London dock, was built
between 1912 and 1921 by the Port of London Authority. At 64
acres it was smaller than the other royal docks, but it could
berth liners as large as the RMS Mauretania. It and the
other London Royal docks fell into a steady decline as traffic
moved downstream to Tilbury from the 1960s onwards, with closure
coming in 1981. Redevelopment in the 1980s included the
construction of London City Airport on the north bank of the
dock. This was completed in 1987. King George V station on the
London City Airport branch of the Docklands Light Railway opened
in December 2005 and is named after the dock.

nature reserve managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust in an area
designated the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

stock footage hails from the 1958 Ealing film Davy, which
starred Harry Secombe. The footage shot captures the venue in
its last days as this threatre was
destroyed by fire in 1958. All that could be salvaged were
the facade and side walls, which survive with minor alterations
to this day. The building now houses a Waterstone's book store.

Since Filming:
Chester's Casino closed in the early years of the 21st
Century. Although an Italian restaurant,
Bocca di Lupo, opened in its place in 2009, the famous
casino sign at the front has been retained. The casino was
originally run by comedian Charlie Chester. The rest of the
gambling related adornments have sadly been removed.

filmed when the theatre was presenting the first London run of

Since Filming:
Winston's Club was a popular entertainment venue in the 1950s
and 1960s. Among those who performed there was Danny La Rue, the
famous singer and female impersonator, who was a resident act at
the club from 1956-1963. The club is long gone and the premises
now houses a fine art gallery.
