Locations are presented in the order
they first appeared in the episodes, with all subsequent revisits to
that place grouped together for the sake of tidiness. Timings given are based on the Blu-ray editions and all episode images are sourced from these discs. Please note that Blu-ray grabs have been
regraded to highlight details of the filming locations

"London Airport"
(1A)
HEATHROW AIRPORT
HOUNSLOW
GREATER LONDON
TW6
Identified by:
Anthony McKay |
(00:02) Kirstner arrives at
Heathrow Airport aboard a
passenger jet, which touches down on the runway at night.
Also appeared in:
Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) -
'The Ghost Who Saved the Bank at Monte Carlo' and used
extensively in other ITC programming. |
Since Filming: As the jet lands the shot settles on a view
of Heathrow which shows - to the extreme right - the original
Control Tower building, which was demolished in 2013 to make way
for roads serving the new Terminal 2 (opened in 2014). It was
one of the last iconic remnants of the 'old' Heathrow. The
nine-floor red-brick tower, with its glazed Air Traffic Control
Room and white radar dome, had gazed out over the ever-evolving
airport since 1955. It had been constructed to replace the
original RAF Control Tower, and was built in the same era as the
now-demolished Queen's Building and Europa Building (the former
T2). The latter of these appears in the next shot... |

TERMINAL 2 BUILDING
HEATHROW AIRPORT
HOUNSLOW
GREATER LONDON
TW6
(00:08) Establishing shot
of the Terminal 2 building at Heathrow Airport.
Also appeared in:
Used extensively in ITC programming. |
Since Filming:
The original Terminal 2 was Heathrow's oldest terminal. It was
designed by Frederick Gibberd and opened as the Europa Building
in 1955. It had an area of 49,654 m² (534,470 ft²) and in its
lifetime saw 316 million passengers pass through its doors.
Originally designed to handle around 1.2 million passengers
annually, in its final years of operation it often accommodated
around 8 million. Despite various renovations and upgrades over
the years, the building became increasingly decrepit and
unserviceable. It was closed on 23 November 2009 and the
building was demolished in 2010. The new Terminal 2, opened on
4th June 2014 and stands on the site of the old building and the
once adjacent Queen's Building (also designed by Gibberd and
demolished in 2009).

"A Ghost on the Road"
BAKERS HILL &
HADLEY WOOD ROAD
HADLEY WOOD
LONDON EN5
Identified by:
Geoff Dodd, December 2006 |
(00:52) Kirstner drives his
daughter Susan's car along country roads. She is a less than
happy passenger.
Spotter's Note:
There is clearly a policy of regular tree planting along Bakers
Hill - there are lots of new trees on both sides of the road,
including a new batch of tender saplings, and the ditch is
difficult to see as there is a lot of grass both within it and
in front of it. The first Now photo is thus a representative
view rather than an accurate matching shot. In contrast, the
second view (below) is spot on because the tree is very
recognisable.
Also appeared in:
The Saint - 'The Checkered Flag'
The Baron - 'The Maze', 'The Man Outside'
The Champions - 'The Fanatics', 'Reply
Box No. 666'
Department S - 'The Trojan Tanker', 'The Shift That
Never Was', 'The Man Who Got a New Face', 'The Duplicated Man'

"Jeff's Office"
ADAMS FURNITURE
SPRINGFIELD ROAD
HARROW
LONDON
HA1
Identified by:
Andy Hulse |
(04:20) Establishing shot of
the entrance to the building housing the Randall and Hopkirk
office (shot previously used in 'The Man from Nowhere' and 'When Did You Start to Stop Seeing
Things').
Since Filming:
The Randall and Hopkirk offices are long gone, demolished in August 1985 to make way for a new development. The grass verge seen in the 1993 photograph represents the approximate point at which the
offices stood. This too has also now gone and Jeff and Marty's
offices are now under concrete, following the building in 1996 of
a new shopping centre.
Also appeared in:

"The Kirstner Residence"
(6A)
PIGGOTT'S MANOR

HILFIELD LANE
ALDENHAM
HERTFORDSHIRE WD25
Identified by:
Anthony McKay |
(09:25, 25:20) Establishing
shot of the Kirstner residence.
Also appeared in:
Department S -
'The Bones of Byrom Blain'
Feature Films:
Fear in the Night (1972) |
Spotter's Note: The land was granted to Thomas Picot in the
13th century by the Abbot of Westminster, hence becoming known
as 'Picot's Manor'. A Georgian-styled manor house was built
there in the early 1700s, and this endured until 1884 when
George Villies purchased and demolished it. Villies commissioned
a larger house in mock-Tudor style, and it is this building -
known as Piggott's Manor since the 1920s - that survives today.
In 1957, it became the Preliminary Training College for St
Bartholomew’s nurses, and was sold in 1973 to rock star George
Harrison. He gifted the whole estate to International Society
for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), who renamed it Bhaktivedanta
Manor and operate it to this day as a Hare Krishna temple. It is
freely accessible to all and has a welcoming atmosphere. |
