they first appeared in the episodes, with all subsequent revisits to
that place grouped together for the sake of tidiness. Timings given are based on the Blu-ray editions and all episode images are sourced from these discs. Please note that Blu-ray grabs have been
regraded to highlight details of the filming locations
and are not representative of the actual look of the
Blu-rays, which are graded appropriately.

The camera pans left and up past Welch's Store to a series of
broken windows set in the tenement exterior above.
Since Filming: These
buildings, at the Govan Road end of Maclean Street, were demolished in slum clearances that took place in
Glasgow from
the Sixties onwards. Identical buildings on the estate survived
and these can be seen on Paisley Road West and Lorne Street, but
the tenements seen in Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) are
no longer there.
The
Welch's Store building, which was at the Govan Road end of
Maclean Street, has also been demolished.

off CARDINAL AVENUE
BOREHAMWOOD
HERTFORDSHIRE WD6
(23:53)
Jeff runs down the service road towards Cardinal Avenue.
Since Filming: In
December 2011 when we went to photograph this location, we
discovered that the building at the end of the service road (the
Borehamwood Village Hall) had just been demolished. Here it is,
photographed before it was taken down:
The replacement
building, like the village hall, was built to serve the
community, housing a library, the Elstree & Borehamwood Museum,
and youth facilities. The building - at 96 Shenley Road - opened
to the public on 18th November 2013. The rear of the new
building can be seen on the service road off Cardinal Avenue:

Spotter's Note: The green woodwork of Well
End Lodge was overpainted with white sometime between September
2012 and October 2014. Sadly, the property has since fallen into
a state of dereliction. There is a sign warning of an asbestos
hazard which is possibly the reason.
The majority of the downstairs windows were
boarded up in 2020 with some of the upstairs ones done
subsequently by April of the following year. Ivy has already
started to envelop one end of the building including the
boarding over the bay window.
The horse head sculptures that adorned the gate
posts were removed between April 2019 and August 2020. |
