Locations are presented in the order
they first appeared in the episodes, with all subsequent revisits to
that place grouped together for the sake of tidiness. Timings given are based on the Blu-ray editions and all episode images are sourced from these discs. Please note that Blu-ray grabs have been
regraded to highlight details of the filming locations
and are not representative of the actual look of the Blu-rays, which
are graded appropriately.

PICCADILLY CIRCUS
WESTMINSTER
LONDON W1
Identified by:
Stephen Carter, August 2001 |
(00:02) Establishing high
angle shot of Piccadilly Circus at night (stock footage).
(00:10, pictured) Further
establishing shot of Piccadilly Circus at night, starting with a
shot of Regent Street St. James' (stock footage).
Since Filming: The subway
entrance to the Piccadilly Circus Underground Station has been
remodelled since the 1960s, with it being widened to the
pavement side. Hence it is impossible to perfectly match the
original photograph today. The angle of our 'NOW' photo is
correct, but those crafty saboteurs of Randall and Hopkirk
locations have done their level best to make it look wrong!
Also appeared in:
Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) - 'Whoever Heard of
a Ghost Dying' and 'Just for the Record'
Also used extensively in other ITC and ABPC television
film series. |

COVENTRY STREET
WESTMINSTER
LONDON W1D
Identified by:
Anthony McKay |
(00:14) Establishing shot
of Coventry Street, looking towards The Prince of Wales Theatre.
Since Filming: The building
that can be seen to the extreme right of the 'THEN' shot has
been extensively remodelled. The shopfront of Dunn & Co. has
been removed to form an open space containing a fountain and the
corner of the building has been rounded. This is why the current
view shows more of Haymarket, the right turn at the traffic
lights.
Also appeared in:

Spotter's Note: This
building stands on both Piccadilly Circus and Shaftesbury

Piccadilly Circus. The neon light advertisements are no longer a
feature of the building.

CHARLIE CHESTER'S CASINO
ARCHER STREET
SOHO
LONDON W1D
Identified by:
Anthony McKay |
(00:20)
Neon sign of Charlie Chester's Casino (stock footage).
Since Filming:
Chester's Casino closed in the early years of the 21st
Century. Although an Italian restaurant,
Bocca di Lupo, opened in its place in 2009, the famous
casino sign at the front has been retained. The casino was
originally run by the comedian Charlie Chester. The neon lights
and other colourful
adornments (which can be seen in our 2001 photo)
have sadly been removed.

MONACO
(filmed from
Rue des Remparts
Monaco-Ville)
Vantage point identified by:
Alan Hayes, January 2020 |
(10:13) Jeff views Monaco
Harbour from his hotel window.
Spotter's Note: Port Hercule (often referred to as Monaco
Harbour) is the principality of Monaco's only deep-water port and
it has been in use since ancient times. The modern port was
completed in 1926, and underwent substantial improvements in the
1970s. It covers almost 40 acres (160,000 m²), enough to provide
anchorage for up to 700 vessels. The depth of water in the harbour
ranges from 7 metres for standard berths and up to 40 metres for
the outer piers and cruise ship docks. |

Identified by:

(13:18) An establishing
night-time shot of a Monaco thoroughfare.
Spotter's Note: As anyone
who has watched the annual Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix will know, the Principality is renowned for its tight,
twisty roads and Rue de L'Échelle in Paris could hardly be
mistaken for the Monte-Carlo district which the race passes
through... But the director and film editor on The
Ghost Who Saved the Bank at Monte Carlo clearly thought otherwise... |
