Notes |
-
This boxset, released
simultaneously with the individual volumes, marked the debut of
The Prisoner on DVD.
-
This release was lauded as
'Digitally Restored', but the reality was not quite what
the term promised, as the restoration was done in
real-time (three Archangel passes, reputedly) rather than
it being a frame-by-frame clean-up. Consequently pictures
were somewhat soft and smeary.

|
Notes |
-
On Sunday 7 August 2005,
Peter Graham Scott (Director: The Prisoner and
Danger Man), Eric Mival (Music Editor: The Prisoner),
John S. Smith (Film Editor: The Prisoner) and
Robert Fairclough (TV Historian and Author) joined a sell-out crowd
at Portmeirion's Hercules Hall for a celebration of
Patrick McGoohan, Danger Man, The Prisoner
and Portmeirion, in aid of Ty Gobaith Children's Hospice
in North Wales.
-
The 2-hour PM 2005
DVD featured highlights from the event, including in-depth
interviews with the guests, a report on The Lego Village,
highlights from the Portmeirion guided tour, guest press
call, and additional unseen candid interview footage.
-
Despite the packaging noting
the disc as DVD-R format, the disc inside was in fact a
proper pressed DVD.
-
The DVD played without a
menu screen.

the Steven Ricks Collection, is a series of Exposure

of some scenes that were omitted from the finished
episodes.
-
Commercial Break Bumpers.
-
Dolby 5.1 Audio Mix - each of the seventeen
episodes can be listened to in either original Mono or
Dolby 5.1 remix.
|
Notes |
-
This release was a total game changer for
ITC releases, let alone for The Prisoner, as it was
the first to benefit from a ground up restoration from the
original film elements using modern hardware and software.
The results, while later improved upon by the Network and
ViaVision Blu-rays - notably in respect of the soundtracks
which had a few issues on this DVD set - were night and
day improvements over what had been available to buy
previously. It would be no exaggeration to say that The
Prisoner had never looked better, not even on its
original transmission.

Notes |
-
The Don't Knock Yourself
Out documentary had previously featured on Network's
40th Anniversary Edition of The Prisoner. This DVD
release marked the first time that the documentary was
made available separately.
-
The standalone DVD of this
documentary was a Network Exclusive, only available from
their website.
-
The two featurettes on this
release were exclusive to this DVD and had not been
included in the 40th anniversary complete series edition.
-
The release date given above
is in fact the date of Network's announcement - it is
unclear what the actual release date was. The date at
Network's website is 13 November 2007, but this is the
date when the pre-order was added to the inventory, so not
the release date.

some initial ideas for the buildings' use in the series.
-
Film Trims - a selection of trims from
Arrival, Many Happy Returns, The Chimes of
Big Ben and The Girl Who Was Death.
-
Radio On - Radio 1 DJ Simon Bates

a Caterham Super 7.
-

from one of Chris Rodley's full interview sessions with
Patrick McGoohan for the original Six Into One The
Prisoner File documentary.
-
ITC Promo Reel - Discovered in 2006
in ITV's vaults, this showreel is an example of what Lew
Grade would have shown to his US network clients in their
preview theatres in pursuit of a sale. It hasn't been seen
beyond its original use in 1967.
|
Notes |
-
Network staged a 50th Anniversary event at
Portmeirion on 29 September 2017 to tie in with this
release. Cast and crew present included Seamus Byrne,
Annette Andrι, Fenella Fielding, Jane Merrow, Derren
Nesbitt, Norma West, Peter Wyngarde, as well as Catherine
McGoohan, and the Big Finish team including writer
Nicholas Briggs, 'the new Number 6' Mark Elstob and
Nickolas Grace. Another of the day's highlights was the
screening of two Prisoner episodes - Dance of
the Dead and Checkmate - in the Hercules Hall,
projected in 35mm.
-
As part of the ticket price for the event,
attendees were given the opportunity to choose between
receiving a Blu-ray or DVD version of the new 50th Anniversary 'Village
Editions' Blu-ray or DVD + CD + book set. However, the copies
handed out on the day were all missing Disc 6 (In My
Mind), which was not fully cleared in time for the
event. Corrected sets were sent out a short while later.
-
It is unclear whether Network made the DVD
version available more widely after the Portmeirion event.

Notes |
-
In My Mind was a
feature length documentary made to celebrate the 50th
anniversary of The Prisoner. It was written and
directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker Chris
Rodley. The film recounts one of Rodley's early filmmaking
experiences: an attempt to interview Patrick McGoohan for
the 1983 Channel 4 documentary Six into One: The
Prisoner File. The interview didn't go quite to plan,
as In My Mind reveals.
